This morning I had another appointment and an ultrasound. I am now seeing my doctor every two weeks since I'm getting dangerously close to delivery day :) At my last appointment I mentioned to Dr. Wilson that my belly was just feeling very big and stretched, he smiled and said, "Now Christina, you're an RN you understand that that's what happens during pregnancy." My belly was measuring perfectly for how far along I was and he reported that he was not concerned. I, however, was still feeling big and uncomfortable so I asked him for an ultrasound around 34-35 weeks just to make sure my baby wasn't going to come out the size of a toddler. He agreed and said "If it would make you happy, I'll order that" (the one sentence that will make any RN happy). So, this morning I went for the ultrasound and found out that in fact my little man is measuring "On the small side of normal." As of today he measured at 4 pounds and 9 ounces AND he's BREECH! Of course with parents like Matt and I our kid couldn't do anything the traditional way. I had a feeling he could be breech since I feel much more movement low in my belly than up top. So, over the next few weeks I will make it a point to stand on my head and do all the crazy things the books tell me to do to make a baby flip on his own. I'm totally just kidding about standing on my head, I can hardly stand on my own two feet, trying to stand on my head would not be a good idea at this point! I'll have another ultrasound on March 22nd (at 38 weeks) where they will measure all the important parts to see if he has caught up growth wise or at least not gotten smaller and check to see if he is still breech. If he falls off the growth curve then they would try to take him a little early, but if he continues to grow then we will just let things happen naturally. UNLESS he's still breech, in which case I would be scheduled for a C section. They could try a version (where they manipulate the baby to try to get him to flip) but I've heard too many horror stories from mom's who have tried this and am overall not fond of the whole idea, too risky with too low of a positive outcome.
Anyway, the good part of the appointment this morning was getting to hear our little man's heart beat (which was in the 140's--perfect) and getting to see his cute little face again. The ultrasound tech was nice and confirmed that she did see a penis and printed out two pictures for us. So we painted the nursery the right color, that's good to know!
